Day 4 (Romantic dinner for two)
We'd planned this day to be sort of a resting day. Catch a glimpse of Solothurn, go for a swim in the Bielersee and have Filets de Perche (local small sweet water fish) in the beautiful town of Le Landeron. Well, it started off nice and slow all right. We slept late, had a slow breakfast and then I found out that I was 10 minutes late from preventing us getting a parking ticket. Sheesh, if we'd known before we wouldn't have ehhh... slept late, we'd moved the car sooner and had slept late a little later. Oh well... at least now we know that sleeping late in Solothurn is slightly cheaper than parking your car for 1.5 days in Bern :-)
Anyway, as it was too late to go into Solothurn we set off to find a nice spot in the sun on the shores of the Bielersee at around 1:30 PM. After driving around for a while we found just the spot in the small village of Lüscherz. Really nice, hardly any people and the weather was quite nice. Had a late lunch there (more Swiss bread, cheese etc.) swam for a while and lazed around in the sun and shade until about 7 PM
Having packed our stuff into our faithful baby Benz we drove off to Le Landeron. A small medieval village that's built around an oval shaped town square. Really beautiful! Each end of the square has a fountain.
Most of the houses are painted.
And the main gate has a little bell tower.
We sat down on the terrace of on of the restaurants (in the middle of the square under the trees) and ordered our Filets de Perche and a glass of really nice local wine for me. And then, just as our eyes locked in a romantic gaze, the local jazz festival set loose with all its Dixieland force. Boy, I just love Dixieland.... By the time we had finished our meal, evening had arrived in all its glory, providing us with yet another photo / video opportunity.
