Forum Romanum | Home of the Vestal Virgins 
When a girl served Vesta (goddess of the fire place), she moved into the Home of the Vestal Virgins. A Vestal Virgin was supposed to keep the holy flame of Vesta burning, in the Temple of Vesta nearby. It was not an easy task; the wind could easily blow out the flame. The unlucky Virgin who was 'on duty' while this happened, was flogged and then fired by the high priest. 

A vestal Virgin served for 30 years and during that time had to remain a virgin. If a girl had sex anyway, she was burried alive... And the guilty guy flogged to death. My book says 'only' ten such cases are known to history. After the 30 years of servance, the girls were free to go and do whatever they wanted.
