Esmee previously had shown me a magazine page with all kinds of faces. Some were made out of tools, others of matches, buttons, etc. And one face, of course, was made of candy.
Since I had never made a cake with a 4½ year old before, I wondered what I could let her do and what not. I decided to just let her try everything. So we started with breaking eggs; I asked her if she had done that before, on which she nodded “yes”. That went perfectly well, although her mother later told me that in fact Esmee had absolutely never done that before :o). Needless to say, we had a blast together.
